The Integrated Musculoskeletal, Pain and Rheumatology Service (IMPReS) covers the East Lancashire footprint of Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Blackburn and Darwen. Our purpose is to make a difference to patient’s lives and have a commitment to put patient care at the heart of what we do.
We welcome applications from suitably qualified HCPC registered physiotherapists who have a passion for MSK physiotherapy to work in our MSK Service
This is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills. As our service is delivered across multiple sites, you will have the opportunity to work with various members of the IMPReS team to develop your skills. This post will be initially based at Barbara Castle way in Blackburn. All staff have to be flexible to work across all sites if there is a service need .
We offer weekly complex patient clinics to support the management of patients, regular supervision, and protected development time. We have a desire to cultivate compassionate leadership at all levels of our team and value all staff and their contributions to continually improve our service.
Undertake a Band 6 MSK physiotherapy role
Be responsible for assessing patients, discussing patient agreed goals and expectations, delivering highly skilled treatments, and providing education for patients, carers and ensuring safe and timely discharges.
Be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards of practice.
Supervise and train more junior health care professionals including students
Deputise for Band 7 physiotherapists as appropriate
Be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through Continuing Professional Development activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
Be involved in service improvement work
Ensure that personal actions and conduct comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures e.g. Health and Safety, Tobacco Control Policy, equal opportunities, confidentiality, the Data Protection Act (1998), Moving and Handling Regulations.

1. Be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care. Ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management.
2. Undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition
3. Formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, exercise classes, and other alternative options.
4. Take delegated responsibility from the Band 7 physiotherapist for managing patients with particular conditions and be responsible for providing specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment plans for patients with these conditions.
5. Be responsible for ensuring the effective selection and use of all treatment resources available.
6. Be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, and adhere to departmental policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through, teaching, training and supervision of practice.
7. Evaluate patient progress, reassess, and alter treatment programmes if required.
8. Manage clinical risk within own patient caseload.
9. Work within Trust clinical guidelines and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy guidelines and have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate.
10. Be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards of practice.
11. Supervise junior physiotherapists and assistants’ record keeping system according to professional and the physiotherapy service standards.
12. Communicate complex clinical information effectively with patients and carers to obtain assessment and cooperation to maximize rehabilitation potential and to facilitate understanding of condition.
13. Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines.
14. Assess capacity, gain informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
15. Undertake regular measurement and evaluation of your area of clinical work and current practices through the use of audit and other measures, individually and with colleagues. Ensure that clinical outcomes and patient feedback are included in your audit plans.
