The Business & Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) service is a specialist public library service. BIPC Oxfordshire is a member of a wider BIPC network in the UK which comes under the brand ownership of The British Library in London. Situated within our flagship public library, Oxford Westgate Library, in the heart of Oxford, the BIPC is embedded within the public library service reflecting its location ‘on the high street’ and its incredible accessibility and reach to individuals and the community. The service has active support from The British Library, Intellectual Property Office, partners and members of the Oxfordshire business ecosystem.

About the Role

Join this dynamic service and share your love of supporting Oxfordshire entrepreneurs and small businesses to explore their ideas for business and help them flourish!

This is an exciting opportunity for an information officer who has experience, interest and skills in helping emerging entrepreneurs and SMEs explore possibilities for their business ideas. You should be able to work with a wide range of resources, both print and digital, such as marketing databases. Through great customer service face-to-face you should be able to inspire confidence in customers and encourage self-discovery and learning. You will help them test their ideas out using known techniques and relevant signposting. You should be able to provide a warm welcome to the Centre and empathetic service to a variety of customers from across the diverse local community to help them develop and explore their business ideas, modest or grand.

About you

The Business Information Officer plays a critical role in the service.

* You should be comfortable with face-to-face interaction, on site Monday-Friday.

* The post-holder should offer confident, enthusiastic, and empathetic customer service to a diverse audience.

*You should have some experience in a business or library context to bring to the role.

*You would benefit from showing ability to meet and greet customers in a public setting who may or may not be BIPC customers.

* You should be able to demonstrate an ability to work both independently and as a team.

* You should be receptive to always learning and adopting different methods as part of these national programme.
