Summary
The post holder will support the Senior Manual Handling Advisor throughout the whole range of manual handling service functions and act as subject matter expert for manual handling training supporting the Learning and Development team to ensure manual handling training is fit for purpose and reflects current best practice and industry standards.
The post holder will act as a key competent person for the Trust on Manual Handling, providing support, advice and training in all areas of manual handling, including standard patient handling as well as the handling of inanimate loads and objects.
The post holder may also be required to provide general health and safety support from time to time.
They will work proactively with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the hospital sites and provide direct support and guidance to the health and safety team, learning and development team and staff at all levels of the organisation (both clinical and non-clinical)..
The post holder will develop and support the delivery of manual handling training across the Trust as well as ensuring the quality of training from the Trust manual handling trainer and any other external manual handling contracted trainers.
To contribute to the implementation of the Trust Health and Safety Strategy, Risk Management Standards programmes and related policies.
Responsible for the day to day management and performance of the manual handling trainer.
To provide advice and support to the Health and Safety team and all Trust staff on manual handling issues including patient handling as well as the handling of inanimate loads and objects.
To ensure that staff are confident and competent to deal with moving and handling issues in an appropriate and safe manner.
Using the Trust Risk Management Database System to interrogate and analyse incident data to identify trends and areas of concern, and provide practical solutions to protect staff and patients and improve the Trust’s safety performance.
To conduct thorough incident investigations that lead to the identification of the root causes and recommend remedial action that will prevent or reduce the likelihood of recurrence and/or severity of harm.
Produce policies, procedures and communications, as directed by the Senior Manual Handling Advisor, that assist Trust management and staff to comply with Health and Safety legislation and best practice.

You will be working within the Patient Safety and Risk Department under the management of the Senior Manual Handling Advisor where you will work closely with colleagues from the Health & Safety, Risk, Patient Safety, Legal and Datix teams.
Responsible for the delivery of robust, fit for purpose and industry best practice manual handling training across the Trust.
Required to take action to establish manual handling standards based on legislative documentation.
