Summary

The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Security Function, based within the Cabinet Office. GSG is transforming the government's approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team, collaborating with a breadth of stakeholders, including those from other Government departments, the National Technical Authorities and the Agencies, and to contribute to delivering improved security across Government.

The Government Security Centres (GSEC) team sits within the GSeC and assurance area of GSG and is responsible for the coordination and continued development of the units.

The five GSeCs, hosted in lead departments, provide centralised services to help meet security standards for the whole of HMG covering: Cyber (HMRC), People and Physical (Home Office), Security Education and Awareness (DWP), International (FCDO), and Industry Supplier Assurance (MoD).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grade 7 Assistant Head and Liaison Lead to join the team. In this role, you will work alongside two other G7 Account Managers and report to the G6 Head of Strategy and Engagement. Please note this role has line management responsibility for one HEO Business Support Manager.

This role provides an exceptional opportunity to significantly impact the ongoing development of the Government Security Centres which provide centralised services to help meet security standards for the whole of HMG. As the lead for the People and Physical GSeC and the Industry Supplier Assurance GSeC, an understanding of Personnel Security and / or Physical Security would be beneficial in this role. This knowledge will enable you to build credible relationships and drive continuous improvement within the Centres of expertise.

The role will also involve engagement with other parts of Govenrment Security Group including policy/strategy and comms/engagement, as well as collaboration across the entire Security Function, including GSeCs, National Technical Authorities, and Security Advisers in departments/agencies. The ambition is for the reach of common good services to extend beyond Whitehall departments to more Arms Length Bodies (ALBs) and the wider public sector. The postholder will play a critical role in developing and enhancing this reach, ensuring customer feedback is integrated into the approach.

You will have a unique opportunity to work across government departments to ensure the Security Function delivers excellent security services that significantly impact organisations, helping them raise the bar on security standards by building on best practice, developing new capabilities, tools and guidance, and assisting the GSeCs in becoming the preferred centre of expertise. This will provide standardised and assured services that tangibly improve how organisations manage security risks.

  • Driving continuous improvement of the GSeCs service offer using insight, knowledge and incisiveness;

  • Understanding the shared services ecosystem and ensuring the GSeCs continue to develop in line with Government Security Function strategies / new standards and priorities while contributing to the continuous improvement of the GSeCs by leading improvement workstreams;
  • Owning the business development role increasing the number of customers utilising the GSeCs in line with agreed targets;
  • Support in the development and implementation of a strategy for the GSeCs as a cross-Government Security shared service;
