About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the further development of our Dementia Care services as we look to support those people living in our homes and with a dementia. At MMCG we are committed to continuously look to enhance the lifestyle of our residents, whilst ensuring that our teams are supported to enable them to deliver truly person-centred care.

Therefore, we have introduced this role to support and upskill home teams to deliver exceptional care to those living with us. This is a varied role, which will involve working directly with residents to meet both their physical and emotional needs; building relationships and finding those commonalities which can enhance the residents’ experience; working alongside your colleagues to role model best practice, providing information, advice, and guidance where required.

You will report directly into your Home Manager, supported by our MMCG Dementia Development Lead, plus a wider network of Dementia Ambassadors across the organisation.

About you

Your experience of working to support people living with dementia is essential. You will need an understanding of the changes that dementia can have both on a person’s abilities and needs; how to find strategies to best support them; and to then support the team with making the relevant changes to care planning.

You will need strong communication, coaching and interpersonal skills and feel confident with supporting the team, delivering training workshops and demonstrating how to put newfound knowledge and skills into practice.

A level 3 vocational qualification in Health and Social Care is preferred.

Glennie House Care Home

Situated in the rural village of Auchinleck in East Ayrshire, Glennie House is a purpose built 52 bedded care home which offers specialist nursing, residential and dementia care. The home also offers respite stays on a long term and short term basis to give home carers a much-needed break. Facilities at home include en-suite bedrooms, spacious lounges, an on-site hair salon, attractive grounds with secure residents’ garden and a guest room which relatives can reserve for overnight stays. Wheelchair access is available throughout. A restaurant standard kitchen provides freshly prepared meals tailored to the residents’ preferences and needs. Care manager Jill Veitch is an experienced manager and is qualified as a general nurse. The home offers excellent training and support to the care team to allow them to take care of the varied needs of residents, from specialist support to general assistance with everyday activities, while also respecting the residents’ need to live independent and dignified lives. The home also offers training, information and support to the relatives of residents to help them better understand the treatment and care requirements of their loved-one. The home benefits from having built good relationships with the local council, GPs, physiotherapists, district nurses, social workers and other visiting healthcare professionals. The Activities Coordinators at Glennie House provide a full programme of activities, entertainment and events for residents to choose from. The home maintains strong community links and access to a mini bus means that residents can enjoy day trips out.
