Summary


The Genomics and Molecular Medicine service at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust are seeking an enthusiastic, well organized and highly motivated individual to join our genomic technologist team as a Healthcare Science Associate.

The successful candidate will join a team of Clinical Scientists and Genomic Technologists to provide a high quality patient focused genomic service. The post holder will be required to undertake a range of laboratory tasks to support the operation of the genomics laboratory. Main duties include laboratory housekeeping and monitoring, booking in and processing specimens and reagents, DNA extraction, genotyping, FISH and Microarray processing, Cell culturing as well as assist with genetic analysis. The post holder will be expected to liaise closely with Clinical Scientists and work effectively within the genomics technical team.

The ideal candidate will be a well-motivated team player that possess excellent technical and manual dexterity skills as well as effective planning, organisational and communication skills. They will be expected to have a meticulous approach to their work and have a good understanding of how to support quality within the laboratory. Please be aware that interviews will be held in person as there will be a practical element to the selection process. We will therefore be unable to support the interview process via remote methods such as Microsoft Teams.

The successful candidate will perform a range of scientific laboratory duties in order to provide an effective and high quality diagnostic clinical service to clinicians and patients.

The post holder after training will undertake a range of technical laboratory duties, assist in provision of an effective and high quality diagnostic service to patients. Examples include: involvement in specimen reception and referral management, cell culture, DNA /RNA extraction, Setting up genetic tests and reporting of results using standard report templates. In addition to this, the post holder will be required to undertake service development, training and quality assurance tasks as directed by senior team members.

The department brings together cytogenetics and molecular expertise into one genomics laboratory service. It is a friendly department with close working relationships with colleagues across Pathology, Clinical Genetics and Cancer Specialities. The department is accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science and the Institute of Biomedical Medical Science as a training laboratory, supporting staff development and training opportunities. The post-holder will undertake technical, analytical and reporting duties after appropriate training.

The post-holder will assist in the training and supervision of less experienced staff.

The post-holder will undertake other routine laboratory tasks including preparation of samples as required and as allocated.

To perform a variety of techniques in accordance with the role.

The ability to work well in a team and be able to communicate effectively with others is of paramount importance. The role is full time, however part time and flexible working arrangements will be considered.
