About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key Scotland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness.

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 (depending on skills and experience) + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

This is an opportunity to be part of a growing security team with a clear mission to protect critical infrastructure and keep the lights on. This role will lead a new security operations team for SSE Transmission. The team will provide an interface between an existing IT SOC and the system operation teams within Transmission. The role will provide domain expertise to understand how security threats may impact the essential service. This is a new team, and additional operations analysts will be recruited over the next year to support this lead role.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

- Lead a small team to monitor critical systems for indicators of compromise.

- Triaging security events, alerts and requests that are raised through the SIEM. Act as an interface between IT SOC and teams that manage the operational technology systems that run the electricity transmission network.

- Collating and sharing threat intelligence and applying domain knowledge to convert this into actionable information for the wider security community.

- Making recommendations to prioritise security investment to expand monitoring coverage.

- Development of processes, playbooks and standards to detect and respond to security incidents across the OT estate.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Experience working in security operations roles, identifying indicators of compromise from system logs and other event sources.

- Experience working within an operational technology environment, preferably for a large, regulated utility.

- Understanding of how cyber security threats may disrupt electricity transmission systems.

- Experience leading and growing a small team including line management and recruitment.

- Experience in a greenfield role where you have produced new tools, process and training to enhancing the maturity of a new team.
