Summary
Purpose of the Role
Newham is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support our Democratic Services team. In this role, you will coordinate several key projects and provide essential support to our committee services. Key responsibilities include:
Organising the Annual Council meeting in May
Coordinating the Newham Civic Awards judging and ceremony
Managing induction and training for elected members
Assisting the Head of Service with recruitment processes
This role is central to the governance of the council, working closely with the Mayor's and Chief Executive's Offices to ensure transparent and effective decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Support committee services with organisational tasks and project management
Plan and execute the Annual Council meeting
Organise the Newham Civic Awards, including judging and ceremony logistics
Coordinate the induction and training programmes for newly elected members
Assist with recruitment tasks for the Democratic Services team
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience in project management, preferably within a democratic services environment
Experience working with elected members is desirable but not essential
Strong focus on quality and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects with interdependencies and overlapping deadlines
Flexibility and customer-focused approach
Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet demanding deadlines in pressurised circumstances
