The role:
Herefordshire Council’s Independent Living Service is recruiting qualified, HCPC registered Occupational Therapists to join our friendly team of Occupational Therapists, Technology enabled living assessors and Occupational Therapy Assistants. We are seeking motivated, committed individuals with sound working knowledge of community occupational therapy services and social care provision. We offer a range of working benefits and have both full and part time positions available, based within our Independent Living Services Duty and Locality teams.
Independent Living Service Occupational Therapists work in partnership with adults, their families and care givers when illness or medical conditions restrict a person's ability to participate in ordinary, everyday activities. The role is about enablement: facilitating increased engagement and independence, providing individuals’ with opportunities, choice and control over the management of their day-to-day activities, health and wellbeing. We work in a person’s own home and local environment providing bespoke interventions, information and advice and facilitate the provision of aids to daily living, adaptations, dignity with moving & handling, specialist community equipment and technology enabled living.
As a registered Occupational Therapist you will work as part of a wider team with scope to practice with a diverse service user group & within a variety of rural, town, village & city settings. You will be required to maintain a varied caseload, undertake functional, social and environmental assessments and support the supervision of junior staff. You will need strong interpersonal, communication & organisational skills and be committed to ongoing professional, service and personal development, contributing to team building and continuous service improvement.
Herefordshire Council Occupational Therapists work in collaboration with social care, health, housing professionals & outside agencies. Herefordshire Council Occupational Therapists work with adults of any age and medical condition. Maintaining professional standards and compliance with applied legislation activity analysis is utilised to carefully plan, monitor & effect necessary change. Working with adults of any age and medical condition, identifying risks and barriers to independence, establishing a persons’ strengths, motivations and independent capabilities, we create meaningful, personalised programmes to qualify access to available services and support.
Support available
For those of you interested in Community Occupational Therapy within social care, we can offer opportunities to focus on Moving and Handling, Technology Enabled Living, Community Equipment and Housing Adaptations. Our Independent Living Services Duty and Locality teams have established senior practitioners who provide day-to-day mentoring and support with processes & practice direction. Formal supervisions are held monthly in addition to annual performance appraisals & ongoing individualised professional development programs to enhance skill acquisition, knowledge & professional application.
All our Occupational Therapists are encouraged to engage in team and professional discussion, participate in workshops, audit, research & development, access virtual and practical training, mandatory compliance courses and experiential learning. Herefordshire Council has established post-graduate training - 1st year supported practice - pre and post-qualifying external courses: Occupational Therapy Degree apprenticeships, ILM leadership and management training.
