Summary


The Thoracic Clinic nurses work at Guys Hospital to provide excellent care to our patients requiring a variety of thoracic surgery interventions. The successful candidate will be hard-working and keen to learn about Thoracic Surgery, their diagnosis and treatment.

You can enjoy working Monday to Friday with no nights and weekends, while still maintaining your clinical skills in a busy, fast-paced environment. We look forward to welcoming a new member to the team.

The Thoracic Clinic is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to work alongside the multidisciplinary team in our busy outpatient clinic. Staff will provide exceptional care to patients attending for pre-assessment appointments, or for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

You will be flexible, and keen to join a service that is constantly expanding and developing. This is a great opportunity to learn about Thoracic surgery and develop specialist Thoracic knowledge, including pre-assessment skills and chest drain management.

You will be well supported by the CNS/Thoracic Nurse Practitioner team and administrative staff to fulfil this role that may be the launch of your specialist thoracic career.

• Preparing patients to see a member of the multidisciplinary team, performing observations, bloods, ecgs and swabs
• Ensuring smooth running of the clinics, by working logically and prioritizing workload
• Working alongside CNS with wound care and chest drain management/removal
• Assisting with procedures
• Supervising junior staff, assisting with training and development, and delegation of tasks
• Developing and maintaining clinical and managerial skills in an outpatient setting
• Assisting the care coordinator in making sure patients are booked for correct follow up appointment
• Managing post-procedure complications, the deteriorating patient, and ward admissions
