Acorn by Synergie is partnering with an established telecommunications company serving military, government, transport, and utility markets. They are looking to expand their team by hiring two additional Technical Support Engineers.

Role Overview

As a Technical Support Engineer, you will be a vital part of the company's operations. The company offers a defined career path with opportunities for growth. The role involves both on-site and in-house technical support, with participation in an out-of-hours support rota.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, Optical, DWDM, Cellular, and Wireless LTE-based networking equipment.
  • Manage and support SNMP-based network management systems on Linux, Solaris, and Windows servers.
  • Apply fault resolution methodologies and contribute to team problem-solving.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours support rota, including phone, email, and occasional site visits.
  • Conduct testing and produce comprehensive test documentation and reports.
  • Administer and run turnkey projects.
  • Manage the fault ticket process from start to finish.
  • Engage with customers and suppliers on technical and project-related matters.
  • Experience in Cisco hardware and configuration, ideally with CCNA level qualifications or working towards.
  • Experience with remote network management platforms.

Key Technical Skills

  • Specialist knowledge in Optical Networks and associated hardware.
  • Familiarity with test equipment (optical power meters, light sources, BERTs, cellular scanners, multi-meters).
  • Experience with Cellular RTE, Routing & Switching protocols, and network synchronization.
  • Proficiency in remote network management platforms.
  • Strong fault-finding methodology.
  • Capability to transfer existing skills to the client's environment.
  • Experience in Cisco hardware and configuration, ideally with CCNA level qualifications or working towards.
  • Experience with remote network management platforms.

Key Supporting Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Capability to train other team members and customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to perform field activities, including GPS and cabinet surveys, telecoms equipment installation, commissioning, and fault rectification.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of the technologies listed.
  • Specialist knowledge in at least one key technical area.
  • Eligibility for UKSC & NPPV3 clearances.
  • HNC level education or higher in a telecommunications field.
