Summary

Clinical Responsibilities To use advanced sexual health/HIV knowledge and skills to independently manage total episodes of care within their own scope of professional practice Provide clinical guidance and specialist advice to the nursing team and act as a role model for advanced practice To supply and administer medicines under the Patient Group Directions or as a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) for both sexual health/HIV and contraception patients Contribute to evidence based practice and research projects within the clinical areas and ensure that written standards for clinical care are formulated, utilised and reviewed regularly and as necessary Collaborate with the Lead Nurses appropriately for professional support and guidance To develop in collaboration with the Lead Nurses , Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and Clinic Manager guidelines and protocols relevant to sexual health/HIV and contraception Managerial Responsibilities Assist the Clinic Manager with responsibility for the day to day management of the nursing staff in their absence Contribute to the business planning process for the clinic ensuring that the relevant aspects of the Nursing Strategy are incorporated and that the information is shared within nursing team as appropriate Ensure the departmental budget and resources are utilised effectively Assist with monitoring department activity, especially Young Peoples, Outreach and Contraception Services through audit and other measurement tools and lead on action in response to outcomes Advise on the composition and skill mix of the nursing team taking into account the developments of advanced practice roles Education/Research Responsibilities Act as a mentor and role model for new members of staff and students, including family planning students Facilitate the development of team members in their professional educational role. Work with the Clinic Manager and ANPs to assist in research initiatives Access clinical supervision within the Trust Encourage an appropriate and effective learning environment for staff and learners allocated to the area and participate in educational initiatives as required Professional Responsibilities To ensure communications with patients and their relatives are supportive and informative with due regard to confidentiality To be responsible for and demonstrate ones personal professional development and maintain up to date clinical skills To be aware of responsibilities under the Nursing & Midwifery Councils (NMC)s Code of Professional Conduct To recognise clinical and professional limitations and seek advice from senior colleagues as necessary Financial and Business Responsibilities Contribute to the business planning process ensuring that the relevant aspects of the Nursing Strategy are incorporated and that the information shared within the nursing team as appropriate Contribute alongside the Clinic Manager and the Heads of Department to review the budget and identify the cost pressures and service developments etc, at year end, which need to be considered as part of the business planning cycle Please see attached job description and person specification to this advert for further details.
