What you’ll be doing
As our General Assistant your duties will be varied, our centre is always busy, so we need someone that will be adaptable to the changing environment of our learning location and is happy to help wherever required.
Your role assists where needed to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of Centre and helps us to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for our guests.
Day to day you could be helping with tasks such as cleaning and general maintenance. You could also be asked to support the education team with the creation of resources, fixing of equipment and assisting with groups in the field.

Where you’ll be based
Field Studies Council Epping Forest is situated in the heart of Epping Forest, an area of around 2,400 hectares of wood-pasture, stretching from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex.
Two thirds of the Forest have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
The purpose built, fully accessible centre has six classrooms, and associated facilities, with direct access into our teaching sites which include woodland, grassland, heath and river.
Most of our teaching sites are fully accessible. The centre is just a few minutes from the M25 and Loughton Tube Station. Please note, there may also be the requirement to occasionally work at our London learning locations.
Who we’re looking for
You will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage different tasks on a day-to-day basis.
Previous experience in general maintenance or a hospitality role is advantageous, but not essential. It’s more important to us that you have:
- A great work ethic where aptitude and attitude are key
- A natural pride in the work you produce
- A flexible and adaptive approach able to perform using your own initiative both independently and as a team player
- A professional manner in all that you do
- An empathy with the aims and objectives of Field Studies Council
