Are you looking for the opportunity to develop your career in local government? Are you interested in gaining wide exposure to local authority decision-making and playing a part in the local democratic process? If so, then this trainee role might be the one for you. This is a career graded post and as such we could recruit a highly experienced Officer at Band 8 or the right candidate that could join us and undertake a career progression route starting at Band 6. If you are unsure then give us a call.

Working as a key member of the Democratic Services team, your working day will be varied and interesting. From organising, attending and supporting committee meetings and witnessing first-hand the democracy underpinning local government, to being involved in advising and guiding to ensure our Constitutional rules and procedures are adhered to.

One of our key values is ‘One Council’ and therefore we are looking for someone who is a team player, enthusiastic and self-motivated with a strong administrative background and ideally used to preparing agendas, taking minutes and organising events. You will also be used to dealing with and supporting a variety of people at all levels, have excellent attention to detail and be able to keep information confidential. Good IT skills are also required, with experience of Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.

As our committee meetings often take place in the evenings and some events take place at a weekend, you must be flexible and have the ability to meet the travel requirements of the post, eg have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
