Crynodeb

The Department of radiology in Oxford is one of the foremost in the country with a high national profile, and a reputation for clinical excellence.

The neuro interventional service provides tertiary level neuroradiological care to a population of approximately 3 million. The workload involves a mixture of haemorrhagic and ischaemic stroke work, as well as elective treatment of neurovascular cases. Last year, Oxford was the third busiest mechanical thrombectomy centre in the country performing over 200 procedures. The successful candidate will be integral to the full (24/7) implementation of mechanical thrombectomy and the stroke service;

As an enthusiastic, motivated and ambitious colleague you will join a neuroradiology service which consists of 6 neuro-interventional consultants; and 8 diagnostic consultants.

This post provides an opportunity to join this established and proactive team in providing the full range of diagnostic and interventional neuroradiological services and respond and develop further to meet the needs of our growing service.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research. Find out more here www.ouh.nhs.uk

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

The post holder will be based mainly at the John Radcliffe although it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations depending on clinical need (travel will be remunerated). The Trust has installed Insignia PACS and has image sharing agreements in place with regional hospitals, to support multidisciplinary team meetings and allow access to comparative images across the region. The Radiology Directorate supports flexible working arrangements for consultant radiologists, and consultants have home-reporting workstations to support on-call provision and elective specialist reporting.

The Trust is part of the Thames Valley Radiology Network with Royal Berkshire Hospitals, Buckinghamshire Hospitals and Milton Keynes. Together, the Network delivers imaging to the region. It is anticipated that there will be rapid sharing of imaging across the network with shared learning and the potential to report for network Trusts

It is expected that the post holder will have completed sub-specialist training in Interventional radiology and will be able to take on a consultant role in the full range of stroke thrombectomy and oncological thermal ablation intervention, demonstrating broad Interventional radiology skills and ability to participate in the neuro intervention on-call system. Experience and training and in particular a demonstrable interest in the subspecialty role of stroke thrombectomy and oncology ablation is essential.

The department is recognized for high quality and standard of imaging and radiological intervention. We have active participation in numerous clinical activities with participation in regular MDTs, in both neurological and oncological subspecialties.
