The role

As a Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will join our team at Babcock to undertake mechanical fitting activities, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all RN and other entitled Vessels and, when required, in other sections including the Estate.

Day-to-day, you'll ensure that work is carried out in line with current processes and make suggestions on improving systems and processes to increase productivity in accordance with set objectives and timescales.

  • Completion of all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and nuclear implicated work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business. (AC28)
  • Identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations to ensure the continued availability and performance of HMNB Clyde Submarines, Surface Vessels and the Estate.
  • Work within all H&S legislation, Safe Systems Of Work and control of work processes within BM&T Clyde policies. (AC17)

This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

This role is full time 36 hours per week and is based at our HMNB Clyde / Faslane site, this includes an early finish on Friday afternoon with overtime available depending on business needs.

Essential experience of the Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter

  • Mechanical Fitting experience
  • Machinist or Pipe Fitting experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to use both hand tools and machines for fitting
  • HM Submarine, Ship Operating procedures and Ship Tag-out procedures knowledge desirable

Qualifications for the Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent is essential.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
