Summary

Our client is an established company situated in Torbay on the beautiful coastal area of Devon. They operate a fleet of vehicles across a diverse range of contracts, including local bus services, specialised Home to School transport as well as UK wide Private Hire.

They have a great opportunity for a dynamic, motivated Operations Manager with previous experience in a transport/logistics management role, preferably either within a Bus/PSV or HGV capacity.

It’s a fast moving, hands on Operations Manager role, and you’ll play a key role in managing day-to-day business operations as well as helping the business to grow and succeed. You will need to be able to challenge existing methods whilst innovating to increase efficiency and compliance.

As their Operations Manager you will receive:

- Annual performance bonus – 2.5% of Company profits
- Salary c£45-50k, negotiable for the right candidate

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the company Directors and working as Line Manager to the Transport Manager, you will showcase the ability to manage and motivate the team of drivers, whilst working alongside the management team to achieve the goals of the company.

What you’ll be doing as their Operations Manager:

- Management of the delivery of all aspects of the companies work to ensure that the service delivery meets contractual requirements and exceeds expectations
- Management of drivers and yard personnel including performance management, recruitment and training
- Full procurement process; costing, pricing, completion of tenders
- Development of new business opportunities
- Supplier relations with Local Authorities, business partners, and customers
- Oversee and manage company expenditure
- Work with Company Directors and Transport Manager to ensure company compliance with Health and Safety legality
- Management and utilisation of database to ensure contractual and schedule accuracy
- Management of office cover rota to ensure sufficient office cover is maintained at all times
- Ensuring the company is presented in a manner that presents a professional appearance

About You

As their Operations Manager you’ll need:

- 3+ years’ experience in a transport/logistics management role
- Strong people management skills including recruiting, performance management, providing training, absence management, and disciplinary actions
- Strong financial acumen and confidence in business led decision-making under pressure
- Superb communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong IT literacy required, with working knowledge of Microsoft 365 preferred
- The ability to think logically, work flexibly and make decisions

Qualifications:

- A CPC Transport Manager qualification would be highly beneficial but isn't essential. Our client is happy to support the right candidate to achieve this in the future
- The ideal candidate would hold a PCV/PSV driving licence and be able to cover driving duties if the need arises

Hours of work will be 40 hrs per week, Monday to Friday. Weekend on-call on a rotation. Please note that some flexibility will be required to meet operational requirements.

Due to contract requirements the successful candidate must be able to take and pass an enhanced DBS check.
