Summary

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the childhood immunisation programme. This will include being able toassess young people and understand the pre-requisites of giving an immunisation,understanding the contra-indications, the aftercare and the relevant advice to give tothe young personTo understand the relevant Patient Group Direction, the relevant chapter in theImmunisation Green Book (D.O.H) and understand storage and carriage instructions forImmunisationsParticipate in health promotion / education and public health activities related to theChildhood Immunisation CampaignChief Executive Karen JamesChairman Jane McCallCLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIESTo observe infection control procedureIdentify risks / clinical incidents following HRCH policy and informing line manager.Understand all aspects of consent Assist patients/service users/carers/relatives during incidentalcontacts.To obtain consent from either the parents guardian or pupil for the vaccination and follow-up onnon-returned consentTo perform a robust Health pre assessment including but not exclusive to previous reactions tovaccinations immunisation vaccination historyTo ensure that the school venue is suitable for vaccinationTo monitor and follow up on those that refuse vaccination and record the reason for the refusalTo ensure that the vaccinations are recorded on the EMIS Systems and templatesTo work in Partnership with the patients and carers to enable them to make an informed choiceabout the immunisationsTo ensure safe storage preparation and administration of vaccine in adherence to policy andprocedureTo be competent in all aspects of immunisation including knowledge of the contraindications tospecific vaccines and the recognition and treatment of anaphylaxisTo maintain up to date knowledge of all aspects of school aged immunisations in order to offeradvice and support to the parents, young people and health professionals in the delivery andpromotion of the ImmunisationsWithin their scope of practice develop and maintain accountability for assessing planningimplementing and evaluating immunisation programmesContribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse and act in Accordancewith the local Safeguarding Childrens Board guidelines.Follow policies and procedure of Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
