Summary

The post holder's role is to support the delivery of the annual audit plan by undertaking a range of risk-based audit assignments and consultancy support and supporting the investigation of suspected fraud. This will necessitate the need to obtain, collate, and analyse financial and non-financial information; conduct interviews of relevant officers and managers; and undertake appropriate testing to assess the effectiveness of key controls.
We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated auditor to join the Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and progressive team who provide valued independent assurance that the Council’s risk management, governance and internal control processes are operating effectively. Our work is varied, covering corporate and operational areas of risk as well as local authority schools. The work supports the achievement of all the Council’s missions outlined in the Borough Plan, providing management with insight and advice around what’s working well as well as areas for improvement. We report the outcomes of our work to the Council’s Audit and Governance Committee.

We are looking for an ambitious, confident, AAT qualified (or relevant professional experience) individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will have experience of undertaking risk based internal audit reviews and an ability to analyse and interpret complex information, and demonstrate sound diagnostic and problem-solving abilities in a work-based environment. With excellent attention to detail, you will be able to work on your own initiative and juggle conflicting priorities, whilst meeting deadlines. You will have experience and confidence working with colleagues at all levels to create positive relationships. Experience of working to professional audit standards is essential. Some counter fraud experience would be desirable.

You will be part of a small, friendly and hard-working team, working to a risk-based audit plan encompassing audit reviews, counter fraud and consultancy activity that provide support, challenge and assurance regarding the Council’s governance, risk management and internal control framework. Alongside planned activity the Team is also responsive to emerging risks and issues, so it is essential that the successful candidate has a pro-active and adaptive mindset to contribute to positive service improvement.
