Job Description
Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in the West Midlands for a Lead Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will provide high-quality financial advice and will oversee a team responsible for budget monitoring for the Authority. The Lead Accountant is a key position in the Council and will work alongside the Head of Finance to deliver an effective service.
Key Responsibilities
- To be responsible for delivering a first class, value for money financial service that meets the legal, financial and Council aims and objectives to meet our customer requirements in accordance with Finance and Contract Procedure Rules.
- To deputise, in the absence of or in place of, the Deputy Head of Finance/Head of Finance or other managers where necessary
- To provide high quality financial information to senior management up to and including Executive Directors to allow decision-making.
- To present financial information to a range of audiences, including contentious information to Scrutiny panels and other public meetings.
- Ensure the accurate, reliable and timely completion of final accounts, monitoring, and budget setting processes and projects within agreed timescales, and reporting thereon to relevant departmental and corporate management teams.
Candidate Criteria
- CCAB/CIMA Qualified Accountant with experience in public sector finance.
- Experience of budget setting and monitoring in a public sector finance environment
- Experience of management accounting and working with a variety of different stakeholders
- Great working knowledge of Local Authority accounting principles
- Great communication skills with the ability to work well on own initiative as well as part of a team
