We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Apprentice Civil Engineer to join our friendly Ipswich based Buildings Infrastructure Team.
What does the role involve?
We are looking for an ambitious, hardworking, enthusiastic apprentice who has good communication, mathematical and design skills.
As an Apprentice in our exciting, fast paced team you will work on a range of real-time projects with local and national clients, collaborating with experienced professionals to develop wider technical and project delivery skills relevant to the role and your long-term career development. The team undertakes an interesting and wide variety of projects from concept to construction over all major sectors including Commercial, Residential, Healthcare, Education, Life Science and Highways Infrastructure.
Under the supervision of Engineers and Technicians the successful candidate will assist with project delivery including the preparation of drawings, design models, calculations and technical submissions.
You'll learn AutoCAD 2D / Civil 3D drafting software and aid in the production of scheme layout and detail drawings for a variety of projects.
Full training will be provided and there will be an opportunity for attendance at a local university to gain a degree qualification and progress your professional institution application.
You will combine learning with practical on-the-job training, enhanced by a wide-ranging network of support from all levels of our organisation which will enable you to quickly increase your skills and develop a wide range of experience.
We are seeking candidates who are prepared to work hard, with a strong desire to continue learning and an interest in Civil Engineering. You will require 112 UCAS tariff points from an appropriate Level 3 qualification, along with 5 GCSE or equivalent in subjects including English and Maths, Grade 9-5.
Typical responsibilities will include:
• Assisting with external works and levels design, including highways, parking areas, and hard landscaping levels. Involved in the horizontal and vertical geometry design.
• Foul and Surface Water drainage design, Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
• Working with the Engineers to undertake drainage and flooding simulations and assessments using MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage software.
• Developing and preparing models, drawings and sketches using drawing software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Revit.
• Manipulating models and drawings prepared by others such as architectural layouts to form the basis of SWECO layouts.
• Liaising and coordinating with design professionals, manufacturers and suppliers in connection with the preparation of models, drawings and details.
• Closely working with structural engineers to coordinate with the below ground foundations.
• Working alongside Geotechnical Engineers to ensure the design proposals are appropriate for the ground conditions.
• Following appropriate quality assurance procedures for the issue of drawings, models, calculations and specifications.
• Complying with the Company’s management systems, Health and Safety and CDM regulations.
• Working within company BIM (Building Information Modelling) protocols and standards.
