About the role
You will lead on the delivery of the Exemplas Partnering & Innovation Advisers team, supporting the successful delivery of the Innovate UK Business Growth EEN & Unlocking Potential services, through identification and actioning of European partnering opportunities for SMEs and maximising growth potential for the grant awardees. Your role as Lead Partnering & Innovation Adviser will be central to our ambition to be a recognised Partner of Choice within the national consortium of partners delivering Innovate UK Business Growth Support.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Working as a ‘player manager’ to lead and manage a team of Partnering and Innovation Advisers & Specialists, covering all aspects of people management activities
• Providing robust advice and support to a portfolio of innovative start up clients, via a combination of hands-on support, advice, coaching and mentoring, including business planning, international markets access, access to funding and finance, & access to expert/specialist resources
• Working with high growth clients and their Innovate UK Business Growth Innovation & Growth Specialists to provide tailored support to encourage international collaboration and partnering that will help businesses enter new markets.
• With the guidance of the Innovate UK Business Growth Team, working with the Exemplas EEN Thematic and Sector representatives to identify opportunities for partnering, including organising brokerage events
• Leading the Partnering & Innovation team in providing guidance to ensure international partnering indicators are on track and reported accurately.
About you
We are looking for someone with strong people management skills who has demonstrable business experience within a growth business environment and experience of international partnering activities. In addition, you will have:
• Experience of and working knowledge of HR processes for managing people and teams
• People management skills, in particular motivating and encouraging others, coaching and mentoring, adaptable communication style, managing conflict, giving feedback, etc)
• Business experience (e.g. business owner, business manager, operations/innovation manager, business/product development manager) within a growth business environment
• Understanding of P&L and balance sheets, concepts such as ROI, breakeven, cash-flow and working capital
• Experience of / or been directly involved in commercialisation of new product or service development
• Experience of international collaboration and partnering in global markets
• Capable of being a combination of coach, mentor, critical friend and champion to start up clients
• Able to understand and communicate the key business issues affecting profitability and growth, along with the factors leading to success in commercialising innovative ideas
• Able to gain and hold the respect of business owners and senior staff in innovative growing businesses
• Can work independently as well as part of a team, and use own initiative/self-motivation
• Active listening skills, with non-confrontational challenging of business assessment.
What we offer
This is a full time, permanent position with an expectation of some UK and occasional European travel. While we operate in a remote first environment, you do need to live within easy commutable distance from our head office in Hatfield, or elsewhere as required, where we meet as a team and to collaborate with others across the business.
• The starting salary for this role is £45,240pa
