Summary
About the Role
The successful candidate will manage two members of staff, and will allocate and triage casework, as well as carrying a caseload of their own. You will be expected to deal with the most complex enforcement cases and be able to give evidence at appeals and in Court. You will be part of the wider senior development management group and contribute to the wider work of the team.

The post is within the Development Management Team at Sutton which has an enabling approach towards new development and the Planning Enforcement Team is highly proactive in early intervention to resolve breaches of planning control without resorting to formal enforcement action. The Development Management, Strategic Planning and Building Control Teams are managed by a single Head of Service allowing considerable opportunity for close liaison across all three areas, contributing to a highly developed team ethos. The Development Management Team has a long established core group of staff and is renowned for career development, as there is a firm commitment to learning and development which ensures high professional standards in all that we do.
About You
This is a high profile position and in keeping with that, you will be expected to be a highly developed professional with a degree in planning or a related discipline and at least 5 years planning experience, 2 years of which must have been in planning enforcement at a Local Authority. You will have considerable contact with senior managers, members and key stakeholders and we are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills (both verbal and in writing) and can demonstrate good judgement and political awareness. You must be able to demonstrate a highly evolved knowledge of planning enforcement and related legislation and be able to present this confidently and with clarity at all times, demonstrating that you are adept at problem solving and can manage difficult conversations, representing the Council in a professional manner.
