Remote working
A Benefits Officer is required to administer all types of Housing Benefit and Council tax Support new claims and changes in circumstances. High levels of accuracy and good output levels are required for this role. This is a remote working role.
Key responsibilities:
Accurate and prompt assessment of claims for Emergency Payments, Household Goods, Housing Benefit & Council Tax reduction.
Processing of reported changes in circumstances affecting those claims.
Maintenance and updating of claims in response to information received from internal and external sources.
Respond to non-urgent requests for information.
Carry out complex assessments, such as adjudicating on fraud or appeal cases.
Review and revise decisions made by self and others where required.
Provide written and face to face explanations of decisions and overpayments where requested.
Check and provide feedback on the work of others.
Respond to urgent requests for updates or information about claims.
Support and coach new entrants by sharing knowledge and experience, either on an ad-hoc basis, by mentoring individuals or floor-walking new cohorts.

Qualifications:
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with a minimum 5 grades A-C including English and Maths.
Experience & Knowledge:
Minimum 3 years’ Housing Benefit assessment experience, including self-employed, UC work and all other aspects of role.
Experienced in front-line customer contact.
Have knowledge of legislation and procedures.
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Skills & Abilities:
Confident in use of IT systems, including Word and Excel as will need to upload reports and attachments as well as update records in several databases.
Good communication skills.
Accuracy and attention to detail skills.
