Head of Transport Policy and Strategy - Empower Communities, Elevate Infrastructure,

We are seeking an accomplished leader to join our esteemed Highways and Transport Directorate as the new Head of Transport Policy and Strategy.

This is a unique opportunity to guide a team of experts in shaping the policies and frameworks not just for our highways and transport services but across the Council and with key deliver partners.

In this role, you will oversee the Transport Strategy and Policy Service, ensuring legislative compliance, directing the development and implementation of the Local Transport Plan to deliver sustainable, low-carbon transportation and ensuring we are enabling sustainable development in accordance with our Business Plan priorities and our emerging Local Plan.

Key responsibilities include managing statutory functions, briefing Members and Senior Officers, collaborating with stakeholders and integrating transport issues as part of our One Council approach. You will lead strategic planning for maintenance, parking, freight, road safety, active travel and public transport and ensure an effective Highways Development Management function. Additionally, you'll build partnerships to ensure customer-focused high performing services and represent the council on regional and national transport issues.

We seek an exceptional candidate with extensive local government experience in transport planning, a comprehensive knowledge of the development plan system for spatial and town planning and the ability to influence and achieve policies that reflect corporate and service requirements at the local level.
