Summary


This is an exciting opportunity for clinicians to work within the Major Trauma Service at Manchester Royal Infirmary and continue to gain experience within their career specialty. This job would be suitable for someone about to apply for a national training number or is seeking a holding job pending an application.



This post can be for a doctor looking at working on our Major Trauma Ward for 12 months or alternatively someone who wants to split the post 6 months Major Trauma Ward and 6 months in our Emergency Department. State on your application which option you wish to apply for. We are also looking to cover Maternity Leave for 6 months from August 24 to February 25.



Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) has been a Major Trauma Centre since 2012.The Major Trauma Service underwent significant service reconfiguration in 2019.A bespoke Trauma Unit has beenopenedtomanagethediverseneedsofourtraumapopulationatahigherlevelthanastandard surgical ward. There will be a significant opportunity to learn about trauma management from a number of perspectives, for instance, optimal reception phase care from our ED consultants, regional analgesia and airway management from our Intensivists, visceral trauma management from our general and cardiothoracicsurgeons, orthopaedic trauma managementfrom our specialistorthopaedicsurgeons and managing associated medical conditions in the context of trauma from our rehabilitation, orthogeriatrician and specialist physicians.

Post holders will have designated non-clinical time to contribute to the development of the serviceandacontributiontowardsauditandresearchwillbeexpected.Thesuccessfulapplicantswill be encouraged to present their work and, where appropriate, to publish.

We are looking for dynamic, dedicated and flexible individuals to support the multi- disciplinary Major Trauma Team on a day-to-day basis.Although this is not a training post, time willbe given for training appropriate to the interests of the successful applicants.A nominated EducationalSupervisorwillbeassignedtothesuccessfulapplicantstohelpensureindividualsareable to develop in their area of interest.In addition, post holders are invited to attend the departmental meetings, as well as an active post graduate programme of teaching at MRI. We are not looking for applicantsfromanyparticularspecialty.Wewelcomeapplicantsfromalmostanybackground,butan interest in major trauma is essential.




Post holders are expected to work 08:00-17:30 as part of a blended team of clinical fellows and Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP’s). Post holders are expected to work 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 weekends with appropriate compensatory rest periods.
