Staff To assist in the supervision, training, and teaching of junior staff in the delivery of a range of tasks as part of the specialist assay service. To be trained in immunoassay techniques as backfill cover for sickness and annual leave. To take stock control for the operation of the section you are located in and liaise with senior staff. Laboratory To prepare patient samples and assay them for the presence of antimicrobial agents by various techniques. To undertake routine maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment relevant to the role. To ensure all procedures and documentation are correctly completed and signed off in the section of the ARL To report on a first-line basis the results of tests for which he/she is responsible when these are within defined ranges. To record results on worksheets, clinical databases and other documentation, including the communication of findings to others within and out with the department. To provide laboratory technical support for research and development projects. To accurately prepare, maintain and document adequate supplies of reagents and consumables. To ensure the efficient and safe use of consumables within own working area and participate in risk management of the department including error reporting. Work in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures developed for use in the Department. To abide by all Codes of Practice, Safety Regulations, statutory requirements and operational policies of the department and the service. Communication To communicate with clinicians and laboratory staff from North Bristol Trust, other NHS or DH organisations regarding test results by telephone or email. To communicate with other members of the laboratory team to provide effective cover for work. IM&T To assist, as is necessary, in recording and maintaining all necessary manual and computerised records concerning the work undertaken within the Department. To assist in the use of automated analysis equipment and software packages for collection and manipulation of data. Professional To participate in continued professional development, by attending in-house or external training sessions as appropriate, and maintaining personal training records as required. To take personal responsibility for maintaining individual training records.
