Summary
Role: Design Engineer (Chemical Manufacturing)
Location(s): Several sites available including Leeds, York, Hull, Doncaster and Sheffield.
Salary: £45-60K
We are seeking a talented and innovative Design Engineer to join our chemical manufacturing team. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and optimising chemical processes, designing equipment, and ensuring efficient production.Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop chemical processes, equipment, and systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for new projects.
- Create detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Perform process simulations and modelling to optimise production efficiency.
- Design and specify equipment, including reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and vessels.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Work closely with R&D teams to scale up lab processes for commercial production.
- Troubleshoot process issues and recommend improvements.
- Participate in hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies.
- Collaborate with procurement and construction teams during equipment installation.
- Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in chemical design.
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD).
- Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
- Familiarity with safety codes and standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
- Experience with AutoCAD or other design software is a plus.
