The role
You’ll be part of our Lab Support Team and make a valuable contribution to our innovative research and development work - joining us on the journey towards taking a cultured meat product from the research laboratory to commercial scale.
Our laboratories at Uncommon currently house expert teams for stem cell culture, novel biomaterials, bioprocessing and product development. You will be working within our Lab Support Team to oversee the ‘Goods In’ and store facilities at our state-of-the-art headquarters in Cambridge, UK, providing essential assistance to our scientists and engineers and playing a big role in the efficient operations of our laboratories
Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Therefore, candidates must possess the full right to work in the UK.
What you’ll be doing:
Assist the Lab Manager by maintaining the operation of the stock platform for quality and inventory control.
Work with the Inventory Manager to ensure all necessary documentation is in place, shared, and stored accordingly.
Receipt of goods into our storage facilities both onsite and offsite including goods receiving checks, QC/quarantine procedures, storage and entry into inventory systems.
Control the picking and issuing of materials from stores to internal teams or for external shipping.
Improve and maintain the inventory control of stock items, suggest and implement improved working methods or processes.
Daily management of stocks e.g. shelf life controls and stock rotation.
Perform quarterly stock audits alongside management.
Ensure stock is stored appropriately e.g. temperature control and chemical segregation.
Maintain stocks of medical gases, primarily CO2 (training will be provided).
Understand risks and hazards associated with materials and adhere to safe handling procedures.
Work across teams to ensure any non-conformance and non-compliance issues are noted and addressed.
Maintenance of wash-up lab, including running glassware, autoclave and storage of clean glassware (training will be provided).
What we think you need:
- A clean full UK driver's licence and be comfortable driving up to a 3.5 tonne transit van.
- An eye for detail, e.g. ensuring the accuracy of stock records and highlighting any corrections to be made.
- The ability to work at a fast pace and be able to prioritise to ensure tasks are done promptly
- The ability to be an excellent role model to all lab members when it comes to Health and Safety, Quality Control of stocks and raw materials.
- Ability to move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds across the office and storage for various needs
- Enthusiasm with the ability to do great work and collaborate easily with other departments.
- Motivation to work in an environment where you can influence, and innovate to improve our processes
- Ability to get people on board and listen to your requests.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using computers and basic software applications.
We’d love it if you also have:
- Experience working in a biology or chemistry facility, such as an academic department or a biotechnology-related environment.
- Certifications in inventory management, supply chain management, or related fields.
- Experience with advanced inventory management software or systems.
- Formal training in safety procedures and hazardous material handling.
- Specific experience in handling and maintaining stocks of medical gases.
