Summary

hanet District Council is looking for a motivated Fire Safety Surveyor to join its Private Sector Housing Team.
The council, as the local housing authority for Thanet, has a duty to ensure that residents living in the private sector are protected from unsafe housing. This role will support that duty by investigating the fire safety arrangements in medium rise residential buildings, in collaboration with our colleagues from the Kent Fire & Rescue Service.
The postholder will undertake a whole district survey to identify private residential accommodation above 11 metres in height, with a view to establishing whether there are any such buildings that have combustible external cladding. Where such cladding is encountered and/or where other fire safety concerns are identified, the postholder will seek to remedy the situation either through informal negotiation or by means of supporting enforcement action when necessary.
This post will be attractive to anyone seeking to broaden their experience with a challenging and varied role where initiative and robust interventions are encouraged.
Essential Requirements
● You will have relevant knowledge and experience in identifying fire hazards in medium rise residential buildings and have a good understanding of the risks posed by external combustible cladding.
● You will have excellent communication skills and be able to authoritatively explain risks relating to fire safety, as well as being able to effectively communicate legal requirements.
● You will hold a Level 4 or above qualification in a relevant subject area, or have significant relevant experience in the assessment of fire safety in residential buildings above 11 metres
in height.
● An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.
● This post requires you to have a full driving licence and your own vehicle, as travelling around the district, sometimes to remote sites, is a requirement of the post.
Hybrid working considered.
