Responsible for day to day tree management and maintenance, deal with enquiries, undertake tree inspections and risk assessments on P&C land as well as providing a similar consultancy service to other services and organisations, working in conjunction with the local community and partners.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out tree surveys, inspections, risk assessments and other data collection both on council and third party land. Develop tree management and planting projects and associated work programmes.
Help coordinate emergency tree work as and when required.
Assist in the development and implementation of the Corporate Tree Risk Management System on Parks and Countryside sites, those sites transferred from other service areas and those still in other services’ ownership. Assist in the training of non-arboriculture staff in basic tree risk assessment techniques.
Preparation of specifications, contract documentation and work schedules, placing work with internal staff and external contractors and monitor contracts and contractors.
Encourage and enable community partnerships and participation in community forestry and other projects. Organise events and develop projects. Promote and publicise the service.
Assist private landowners with tree and woodland management and planting. Provide a technical advisory service.
Deal with enquiries, complaints and subsidence damage and other claims and create and develop relevant databases.
Secure external income and sponsorship for revenue and capital projects and monitor budgets.
Represent P&C throughout the Council and externally on tree matters. The nature of the service will require attendance in the evenings and at weekends.
Undertake woodland management/development plans in conjunction with the woodland manager.

Unless the DBS requirement stated above is for a Basic Disclosure, your DBS must be either through us or be accompanied by a subscription to the DBS updating service.
Qualifications:
BTEC or C & G Level 3 Certificate in Arboriculture.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of visual tree assessment.
Extensive knowledge of tree botany, biology, pathology and tree mechanics - desirable
Map reading.
Identification of trees and shrubs and tree pathogens.
Recognition of physiological tree defects, diseases and disorders.
Experience:
Technical and/or practical experience in forestry/ arboriculture, including decision making on tree health, structural safety, pathogens and appropriate preventative remedial work.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong literacy skills for writing general correspondence and reports.
Strong communication skills - must be tactful and be able to deal sympathetically with the public, tree-owners, etc.
Able to work in a team and on own initiative without constant supervision.
Demonstrate ability to develop and sustain effective relationships with internal and external personnel.
Able to work to time limits and to handle a number of activities at once.
Ability to work under pressure and to demonstrate a positive approach to a range of responsibilities and demands.
Physically fit - able to walk for sustained periods and for long distances often on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
Must have confidence and diplomacy.
