Here in Sunderland we are diversifying how we help and support people who become homeless. We have realigned the Housing Options Team to ensure the team is well placed to meet the needs of all people who are street homeless and those threatened with homelessness. We will work to ensure that all move to and sustain independent living.

For many this journey is not a straight line, therefore we have increased the team and have added more diverse roles to ensure people are supported at every stage of their journey to a safe and secure home.
The role is to interview, assess and identify prevention/relief options for people while working collaboratively with housing and homelessness services, prisons, drug treatment agencies and other relevant partners. You will carry out a Housing Needs Assessment and a Personalised Housing Plan with the customer to ensure successful outcomes.

The main aim is to prevent homelessness, deliver housing advice and make appropriate enquiries to determine the available options for the individual. The role requires you to work with vulnerable customers in challenging situations.andnbsp;

You should have a good understanding of the Homeless Reduction Act 2017, issues surrounding homelessness and its prevention/ relief of homelessness, along with IT and case recording skills. You should be resilient, be able to solve problems, manage a caseload and meet deadlines as well as being able to work on your own initiative and as part of the team.andnbsp;

The successful candidate will need to be able to negotiate and communicate empathetically with people whilst being sensitive to different life experiences. We welcome applications with lived experience.
