Summary
The Emergency Department at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital is an extremely busy department with a workload that is typical of a major urban centre. There are currently approximately 95,000 new attendances per year with follow up via a clinic or ENP review seeing approximately 2,000 patients per year.
A wide spectrum of Emergency work is dealt with, including Acute Medical, Surgical, Orthopaedic, ENT and Psychiatric emergencies and the Trust is accredited as a Trauma Unit as part of the Merseyside & Cheshire Trauma Network.
The initial management of all patients is in the hands of the Emergency Department staff, but all the acute specialities provide in reach services to the department. Many of the patients requiring short-term acute treatment are managed on the Emergency Observation ward, which is adjacent to the Emergency Department. These patients remain under the care of the Emergency Department Consultants.
There are excellent working relationships with the Acute and Stroke Physicians, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases to name but a few and staff are focused on working together to deliver high quality patient care.
The work of the F2 will be carried out under the supervision of more senior members of the medical staff and ultimately Consultants, and will include the documentation and day to day care of patients and attendance at ward rounds. F2s will have contact with Medical, Nursing, Professional and Technical and Administration staff.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.
The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.
