The post offered is that of Locum Consultant Psychiatrist working 8PAs in the Early Intervention Service (EIS) for Psychosis in Islington. This is a short-term cover for the current substantive post holder on long term sickness absence. The substantive consultant post was a new post, which has been created to increase the senior medical leadership to the Islington EIS Team.
The EIS is part of the care pathway for patients with a first episode of psychotic illnesses. The care pathway applies the recovery model of care, and it delivers evidence-based treatments. Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide joint clinical leadership to the Islington part of the EIS, alongside the other two honorary consultant psychiatrists, Prof Sonia Johnson and Dr Jonathan Ornstein, who work 0.2 WTE in the team. The post holder will be supported by a full-time higher trainee (ST4-6).
C&I has worked closely with current service users and Trust staff to create a set of shared values that make sure people who use the Trust’s services get the best possible chance of a rapid recovery. These values are embedded in the campaign: Changing Lives – will help drive up the standards of care across the Trust. For people who use the C&I‘s services, these values meant that they can be assured that through their journey to recovery they will be guaranteed:
• To receive a warm welcome through their journey to recovery
• That their dignity will always be respected
• That their care will be founded on compassion and kindness
• To receive a positive approach to care as they journey towards recovery
• High Quality Care from a highly trained team of professionals
• That each individual will be part of the wider team in the journey to recovery –
i.e. ‘no decision about you, without you’.
C&I staff are required to reflect these values throughout their service at the Trust both:
• for people who use the services of the Trust, AND
• within their immediate teams and across the wider business of C&I.
As an applicant for this role, you are urged to demonstrate within your supporting statement a combination of evidence that reflects your competence to meet the job specification and provide examples of how C&I values are an integral part of the way you have and will continue to deliver service.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The direct clinical care sessions will include: assessing new referrals to the team; reviewing patients and advising on their care; contributing to risk assessment and management; helping to manage crises; conducting medication reviews; participating in CPA reviews; and providing Consultant input into the team meetings.
The EIS is an innovative service with a strong focus on continuing service development, Quality Improvement and maintaining an audit cycle, and conducting service evaluation and research. The post holder will be expected to support and contribute to these activities.
Camden and Islington has very strong academic links with the academic unit at UCL. There is a tradition of the Trust producing high quality research in the area of service delivery. The post-holder will be encouraged and supported to pursue any research interests, with the support of their academic colleagues in the UCL Department of Mental Health Sciences.
