The Business

An innovative, University of Oxford spin-out, involved in the design and manufacture of revolutionary equipment, requires an Assistant Buyer/Buyer, to join a small team of dedicated Engineers, Technicians and Supply Chain Professionals.

The products are deployed globally, in a variety of industries, used in a number of highly regulated processes.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase goods, materials, components, or services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets
  • Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact business operations
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures throughout the procurement process
  • Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation - including maintaining supplier long lead order updates
  • Contact suppliers to resolve issues with price, quality, delivery, or invoice
  • Raise purchase orders as and when required - including internal purchase requisitions daily and utilising the MRP system
  • Using expediting pressure as appropriate to ensure that raw materials are delivered in time to achieve production schedules.
  • Operate non-conforming product process with direction from QHSE and SSCM

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience in purchasing, MRP and Stock control within a similar role preferred
  • Background in Manufacturing/Production purchasing is preferable with an understanding of current purchase and supplier control processes
  • High standard of numeracy and strong computer literacy
  • Good negotiation and verbal communication skills
  • Organised approach to work with good attention to detail and time management
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to think proactively and prioritise work
  • Ability to use own initiative and judgment
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, willingness to learn, and team orientated
  • Good knowledge of MS Office and general IT familiarity
