Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - 25.5 hours per week

Fire Alarm Tester - The Role:

Kingston University has 4 main campus sites plus 2 Halls of Residence and other offices and facilities within an approximate 4-mile radius.

Fire alarms in all these locations must be tested on a weekly basis and the results recorded. A rigid timetable must be followed.

The Fire Alarm Tester will be responsible for carrying out the programme of weekly statutory fire alarm tests across the University estate, record the results for the Building's Fire Safety logbooks and Nimbus, which may be inspected by the Fire Brigade at any time.

This includes developing good working knowledge of the different alarm panels on each site, establishing, and maintaining contact with fire wardens on each site and ensuring the weekly timetable is followed.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

- Immediately report any faults detected in the expected operation of the fire alarms tested, to the KUSCO FM Helpdesk.

- Monitor the state of fire precautions: where combustible material or main exit routes are likely to be blocked, to monitor, photograph and report problems to the KUSCO FM Helpdesk for clearance or resolution.

- To participate in the annual review of fire risk assessments as and when required.

- To assist in Fire Marshall training, as and when required.

- To contribute to any fire safety initiatives and best practices for the development of service delivered by KUSCO.

- Any other duties as required commensurate with the grade of this post.

Fire Alarm Tester - What we need from you:

Essential

- A current and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle

- Ability to learn systems quickly and to follow instructions

- Good Timekeeping

- Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, verbal and written

- Self-sufficient, able to work without direct supervision, resolving problems

- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation

- Observation Skills - ability to notice small details

- Recording and administration skills - ability to record what work has been done

- The ability to work without direct daily supervision.

Please Note: Training will be given for Nimbus and documentation

Desirable:

- Practical skills in the operation of a broad range of fire alarm panels

- Working knowledge of Fire Safety precautions and electrical systems

- Nimbus training and Operation

- Use of their own car/motorbike/bicycle (mileage allowance paid for journeys between sites)
