An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. We are seeking to recruit two Band 4 Associate Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiologists, one working FT and one working LTFT. One post holder will be expected to be part of the night shift rota, overseeing patients attending for sleep studies.

The post holders will help to deliver the provision of respiratory physiology testing within the Children’s Hospital alongside the current Lead Physiologists and Associate Physiologists, and the service provided by the adult respiratory physiology department. The post holders will also help to deliver inpatient and outpatient sleep studies within the Children’s Hospital.

Paediatric respiratory medicine at the Children’s Hospital provides a tertiary service for children across the South West, including services for children with cystic fibrosis, asthma, neuromuscular disease, and those on long term ventilation. The Children’s Hospital has all the paediatric sub-specialities on the same site and sits next to the adult hospital with a full respiratory physiology lab.

We are looking for individuals with energy and enthusiasm who are committed to providing a high quality service. Previous experience in respiratory or sleep physiology investigations would be beneficial, however full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job:

The post holders will be responsible for supporting an efficient and high quality service in the field of Paediatric Respiratory Physiology and Sleep Medicine, and for providing the very best care for patients during their inpatient stay or outpatient visit.
• To support the provision of the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology service for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
• To undertake a range of lung function investigations on inpatients and outpatients (spirometry, FeNO, nasal NO and bronchodilator response assessments).
• To facilitate the provision of sleep study investigations for inpatients and home sleep studies (overnight oximetry, overnight carbon dioxide monitoring and respiratory polygraphy).
• To train in basic analysis and reporting of sleep studies, following departmental and international standards.

You must be highly motivated, with an ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. As a valued team member you will have effective communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, and excellent attention to detail.

We would very much welcome informal discussions or a visit to enable you to find out more about the role and department. Please contact Kate Kilpin (kate.kilpin@uhbw.nhs.uk) or Rosalind Pring (rosalind.pring@uhbw.nhs.uk) Lead Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiologists for more information.
