Summary

The role of the G7 Operations Manager within the Infrastructure Team is to lead on the management of the operational live service at the Sevington Border Control Post (BCP) within the Biosecurity, Borders and Trade Programme in line with the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM). You will develop effective relationship management to support the delivery of a range of import control checks in a fast-moving, strategically important environment. Working collaboratively, you will drive performance and delivery, minimising risk to ensure value for money and the delivery of excellent outcomes.

Working as the G7 Operations Manager in the Infrastructure Team, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage and deliver operational activity effectively to agreed standards and holding delivery partners to account to robust operational standards
  • Manage and mitigate financial, legal, commercial, operational, and reputational risks
  • Ensure that the Border Control Post functions effectively and that we are providing quality service to customers and adhering to legal stipulations and planning provisions for site use
  • Manage and respond to regulatory and oversight visits, audits and inspections by bodies such as Health and Safety Executive, and HM Crown Inspectorate for Fire Safety
  • Act as the Senior Liaison between the delivery partners on site to resolve issues escalated from key delivery partners
  • Monitor and support direct report performance, achievement of objectives and provide assistance in situations of under-performance
  • Plan and implement processes to improve quality, productivity and performance
  • Identify strategic initiatives to enable the team solve day to day problems
  • Act as a leader within Defra, raising operations awareness across the organization
  • Proactively manage and report on progress to senior leaders, taking corrective action as required to keep tasks, teams, and individuals on track
  • Champion best practice ensuring the team has a sound understanding of operational standards and expectations
  • Be an inclusive leader, coach and develop the team to ensure a sound understanding of priorities
  • Ensure resource profiling is accurate to reflect the demands of the operational live service taking account the current shift patterns
