As a Project Manager within the Business Transformation Directorate or the Livestock information Transformation Programme, you will play a pivotal role in providing Project Management leadership to deliver a wide range of high profile, complex and diverse project related changes across the Rural Payments Agency and Defra Group.

As a Project Manager in the Business Transformation Directorate or the Livestock Information Transformation Programme, you will take on a dynamic and impactful role, where your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of exciting and challenging tasks, including but not limited to:

Responsibility for managing the end-to-end delivery of a project, a specific work stream from a large project or a specific component of several projects within a theme.

Utilise the full range of project tools and governance, ensuring the project is implemented on time and within budget.

Deliver a full range of project functions such as setting up project plans, controls, delivery methodologies, identifying and recording risks and issues and working with stakeholders to identify mitigation activities and controls, project dependencies, identifying and recording deliverables and key milestones, monitoring, and reporting against allocated budgets, supporting delivery of the technical design and development of detailed project plans.

Support or lead (depending on complexity) the successful delivery of one or more projects or work streams to a plan including identification and monitoring of critical project milestones and deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.

Build project plans and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate project controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.

The ability to work on your own initiative and autonomy or alongside Senior Project Managers / Programme Managers, to take a high level impact analysis and develop detailed aims and objectives and a clear project scope, with a considered timeline for delivery.

Follow a governance framework in accordance with established practice, with accountability for developing grading documentation and leading stakeholder reviews. Providing relevant and timely updates at Governance forums ensuring project updates are clear and accurate. Through the design, development and implementation phases of the project, identify solutions to problems and issues and ensure these are delivered to support successful project completion.

Prepare and maintain appropriate project documentation e.g. drafting clear convincing business cases, project plans (including phase, stage and exception plans as necessary) etc. Where required, develop or coordinate development of a business case.

Develop and maintain productive working relationships with the project stakeholders, users, technology groups and vendors during all stages of the project lifecycle and supporting implementation.

Work closely with all internal and external stakeholders to the project and engage with Directors to provide recommendations that will influence their decisions and ensure successful delivery of the project objectives.

Develop and maintain project RAID logs to identify and monitor risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies. Providing mitigating actions and escalation where appropriate, ensuring lessons learned are documented and logged with the Programme Management Office.

Submit project status reports, showing progress and forecasts against the schedule and budget to the agreed timeframes. Supporting effective governance and decision making.

Day to day management and leadership of the project team, setting controls and applying appropriate delivery methodologies.

Ensure appropriate benefits realisation strategy is in place, and monitor longer term delivery of benefits against the business case.

Set up and support project assurance.

Seek appropriate support, guidance and coaching from the project community. Show commitment to personal development. Promote effective individual and team performance.
