Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our established Revenues team through a period of change and development as we embrace new technologies and more efficient ways of working.

We’re looking for an experienced manager to lead the team, who will help us operate a slick and efficient service internally, while providing the best experience for our residents and businesses. The team will have access to new technology and a dedicated finance systems team to help on this journey.

Reporting to the Systems Accountant, you will be responsible for a team of seventeen Revenues staff, with three direct reports. You will be hands on to assist in the day-to-day duties within the team. You’ll be experienced in managing change, comfortable with reviewing and challenging current procedures and implementing process improvements.

This is a varied role and your duties will include:

- leading the Revenues Team, including Non Domestic Rates and Council Tax, and managing income collection processes for these two areas
- identifying training and development needs within the team to ensure that all staff are fully trained in relevant procedures and new technologies
- the know how to provide high-quality customer service and advice to our customers and always communicate clearly and effectively
managing rating and banding of properties and variations
- supporting and advising staff with complex cases
- building effective working relationships with other internal services and stakeholders, using and sharing intelligence and insight to improve the customer experience

We’re looking for someone with:

- current and detailed knowledge and understanding of local taxation
excellent relationship management skills and the ability to navigate diverse and sometimes conflicting stakeholder views and interests
strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport and deal with issues
- the ability to make effective evidence-based decisions under constraints or in the face of uncertainty, complexity or incomplete information
- project management experience and a focus on continuous improvement of service delivery, ensuring efficient and effective processes and high levels of customer service
- willingness to exploit technology to enhance processes and service delivery
- a creative, innovative, positive and fresh thinking approach, ready to challenge the status quo and bring new ideas

Crawley is an exciting place to work, with a vibrant town centre and excellent transport connections. You will be based at the town hall in our new state-of-the-art offices, with excellently designed spaces that facilitate collaborative working. We have a hybrid working arrangement which allows a balance of working from home and at least two days a week in the office.

A Baseline Personnel Security Standard check is required as part of this role, and that will also entail the successful applicant undertaking a Basic DBS Check.
