The post holder will have general paediatric responsibilities including cover of the Dolphin Ward and Ambulatory cases. Duties include participating in the EP (emergency pathway) on-call, 2 PM to 9 PM on the William Harvey Hospital site.
This will achieve our strategic aim of improving support surgery through Dolphin Ward and our ambulatory pathways.
In the future, there may be an opportunity to develop a specialist interest based on current existing subspecialties and expected service needs, particularly with increased expansion and substantive appointments.
A strong commitment from the appointee to the Child Health Care Group and involvement with activities such as audit, appraisal and assessment, learning and development and clinical governance is also an expectation.
The intention of this role is to support an appointee in a joint working pattern with the Kent and Medway Medical School. The appointee will primarily be based at Kent and Canterbury hospital. They will deliver general paediatric clinics, associated admin work, and have proportionate SPA time.
An important purpose of this role is to support care of CYP attending the Children’s Assessment Centre (CAC) including Dolphin Ward. They will support the care of children having ambulatory procedures (such as food challenges or complex endocrine testing) under the care of paediatrics.
They will be available to support the care of CYP admitted under surgical teams for day procedures (it is not expected they will need to provide routine input, but will be available to provide an urgent paediatric review for the times at which CYP are admitted). This will include a scheduled shift until 7pm once a month to support CYP recovering from afternoon surgery lists.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.
