We currently have 5 exciting opportunities as Technical Team Leaders to join our England and Wales Field Delivery Teams in the following locations:
1 Permanent post be located in Cardiff or Carmarthen with regular attendance required at both locations.
1 Fixed Term Appointment/Loan/Secondment until 31/03/25 to be located in Bury St Edmunds.
1 Fixed Term Appointment/Loan/Secondment until 04/08/25 to be located in Wallingford or Winchester.
1 Fixed Term Appointment/Loan/Secondment until 03/11/25 to be located in Bury St Edmunds; Norwich; Chelmsford; Welwyn Garden City.
1 Fixed Term Appointment/Loan/Secondment until 06/10/2025 to be located in Preston Lutra House.
Please note: All posts will be offered in merit order by location.
The agreed amount of time spent at a workplace for this post will reflect the requirement for Civil Servants to spend at least 60% of their working time in an organisation workplace with the option to work the remaining time flexibly from home.
As a confident and inspiring Technical Team Leader (TTL), you will lead and manage a team of technical staff within APHA helping to protect animal health, safeguard animal welfare and facilitate International Trade.
This is an exciting, varied and high-profile role that will also see you regularly liaise with our wider APHA colleagues, Policy colleagues and Operational Partners as well as create a positive team environment in which everyone can and does contribute.
You will be a visible leader and ensure that clear vision and direction is cascaded to your team.
The role involves a wide range of work including, but not limited to, the following:
- To lead and line manage a team of local and geographically dispersed technical staff which will require travel to multiple sites, ensuring effective and efficient deployment to meet delivery requirements.
- To proactively manage the performance, conduct and attendance of your team, reviewing performance on a regular basis and where necessary, establishing performance improvement plans.
- To maintain a team culture to enable your team to work effectively on a local and Agency-wide basis, by encouraging consistency and best practice nationally.
- To work collaboratively across the Agency and Policy to help influence Tactical and Strategic decision making.
- To ensure your team works effectively with Operational Partners and Stakeholders.
- To work with functional leadership (specifically Resilience & Technical Advisors & Government Technical Advisors for Eggs & Poultry Meat Marketing) to ensure the team can meet technical quality standards, procedures and policies, which are consistently applied together with identifying and addressing any development needs.
- To use management information to monitor, analyse and manage outputs against expectations and Horizon scanning to report and take ownership of and resolve delivery risks and issues.
- To contribute to the delivery of Agency wide changes that reflect required customer and/or policy differences and provide constructive management and leadership into change discussions and planning.
- To champion high health and safety standards and support staff to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities.
- During outbreaks of notifiable disease, participate as directed to contribute to the control and the eradication of the disease including taking part in rosters for detached duty to other parts of Great Britain.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day effectiveness of resource management and will prioritise resource and workloads across the team for them to contribute to achieving delivery targets. You will be accountable for ensuing capability to meet performance expectations and your team’s ability to respond to emergencies and disease outbreaks.
