Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding team working to implement new services within the department. The team has a new pharmacy department and are now expanding services within the ambulance sector.
To manage the day to day running of the Pharmacy Department. To contribute to and support the Pharmacy Operations Manager in the ongoing review and strategic development of the service, ensuring services are responsive to needs and that staff working within the section are developed to deliver agreed services.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.
The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Sussex.

• As a senior manager within South Central Ambulance Service you will be required to provide leadership to your team to ensure the effective provision of the service they provide and to champion change in the organisation. Ensure that your staff are motivated and express a positive attitude towards the organisation. You will address any issues and concerns that may inhibit your staff from achieving both their personal and organisational goals.*
• Providing medicines management and technical information to healthcare professionals both within and externally to the trust to ensure continuity of care.
• Communicating with other health care professionals regarding difficulties in supplying medicines and, if appropriate offering alternative solutions to ensure appropriate patient care is always maintained.
• To communicate promptly with service users in response to errors, concerns, complaints and in managing incidents. Ensure that all complaints, errors and incidents relating to pharmacy and medicines distribution are reported and investigated and that appropriate actions are taken promptly to prevent recurrence. Contacting service users to inform them when an error has occurred and to formally respond to complaints if necessary to Line manage the team including managing annual leave, conducting /
ensuring all staff receive an annual appraisal, recruitment of new staff reviewing vacancies against budget to ensure optimum skill mix.
• Managing any performance related concerns, including attendance and discipline, promptly and within organisational policy.
Managing and co-ordinating day to day work of allocated staff, reviewing and reallocating tasks when necessary to meet workload demands. If necessary, resolution of service provision challenges may require communication with and flexibility from service users.
Deputising for Pharmacy Operations Manager. Dealing with day-to-day issues, attending meetings, and providing direction and advice when needed. Providing suitable hand over on their return. If needed advice can be sought from another senior pharmacy manager either on site or via Teams.
• Responsible for ensuring all staff working within the section receive an adequate induction into the section, given appropriate supervisory support, receive appropriate competency workbooks and are managed under the probation policy ensuring reviews are undertaken and any issues are managed appropriately.
To ensure that staff are assigned duties compatible with their grade, training, and experience. Responsible for ensuring all staff are supported and developed adequately to undertake their roles and to progress. Responsible for giving developmental feedback, documenting, and keeping relevant records. Developing action plans and managing appropriately if necessary.
• Responsible for supporting service improvement, conducting audits, evaluation, and development. Actively identifies areas of service improvement. Proactivity contributes to service Policy development and involvement in service improvement through the application of tested improvement tools and techniques.
• Responsible for the development, review, and implementation of local standard operating procedures (SOPs) including ensuring adequate training is provided to ensure staff working within them understand and can adhere to them.
• Contribute to the development of wider reaching SOPs and policy working that may affect other service users.
• Responsible for ensuring the safe storage and supply of medicines. Maintaining knowledge of regulations and legislation associated with medicines.
• Responsible for stock control. Maintaining adequate levels of stock, using the pharmacy system and knowledge of usage, to ensure there is no disruption or delay to the supply of medicine. Responsible for the identification, investigation, and resolution, including financial write off of stock errors using the pharmacy computer system to ensure financial impact is managed.
• Responsible for ordering essential equipment and sundries necessary for service delivery in line with authorisation framework.
• Responsible for ensuring maintaining good practice and awareness throughout the work area. Ensuring staff are aware of and can follow written procedures and COSHH guidelines to ensure the safety of the product, patient, and staff.
• Responsible for ensuring own fitness to practice is maintained supporting the delivery of services when required.
Support education and training across the Trust as and when required in line with Pharmacy team.
• To act as a role model and being accountable for your actions and decisions and ensure that you always uphold SCAS Trust values and professional standards.
