Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Cemetery and Crematorium Operative based at Burnley Cemetery.

The main duties in the cemetery include digging and preparing graves by hand or machine, assisting with funerals, general cemetery maintenance and assisting with memorial inspections and repairs. The person appointed will also work as a relief crematorium attendant and assist with operating and maintaining the cremators and carrying out chapel attendance duties and other activities necessary to provide a sensitive and professional service.

Applicants must be physically fit and willing to work in all weather conditions and demonstrate that they are able to operate machinery and complete written records and have a full driving licence. Applicants must also be able to deal with the public in a caring and sensitive manner and have a flexible approach towards working on weekends and Bank Holidays as demands on the service require.

Applicants must be willing to undertake further training including the work-based training for relief Crematorium Attendants. Progression to the higher rate of pay is dependent on successfully completing the ICCM Cemetery Operatives Training Scheme and obtaining the Cremation Technicians Certificate
