Summary

Thank you for your interest in joining the Statistics and Data Division in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). This is a great place to work – people are enabled and supported to perform to their best and the culture is energetic, collaborative, kind and inclusive with excellent flexible working. We are the UK government department for economic growth. We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country.

The Analysis Group exists to make better policy and to ensure that Ministers and DBT’s leadership can make informed policy and operational decisions, based on the best possible analysis.

As head of the corporate statistics team, you will help deliver innovative insights and inform decisions to make DBT an outstanding place to work for everyone. You will be responsible for the management of the People Survey Analysis Programme and wider Surveys work, statistical support to our Human Resources directorate, and production assistance of corporate statistics.

You will support the HR analytical leads to build up their capabilities in producing analytical insights such as the Gender Pay Gap report, and an analytical deep dive to understand the drivers of it. This can help with the strategic delivery of HR policies on recruitment, retention, pay etc.

You will have line management and development of a team of two Senior Statistical/Research Officers, a data analytics apprentice, and one Higher Statistical Officer.

As the Head of Corporate Statistics your main role responsibilities will be to:

  • Analyse the DBTs People Survey results, working closely with the People Survey team in HR.
  • Deliver an extensive programme of analysis based on the results from the People.
  • Survey underpinning decisions across the department (e.g. DBT’s People Strategy, Local Action Plans, Staff Networks etc.)
  • Develop new and existing analytical products provided to colleagues across the department, to ensure the data are exploited to their full value.
  • Continue to find opportunities to implement automation and Reproduceable Analytical Pipelines to ensure products are delivered efficiently, freeing up the team’s time to focus on more proactive, value add analysis.
  • Provide oversight to the Survey Control Unit and ensure it helps users across the department to run high quality surveys.
  • Work with colleagues in HR to ensure available data on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) are fully exploited, including insights into the allocation of in-year awards by various ED&I characteristics.
  • Manage a programme of work to ensure that the non-financial figures in the Annual Report and Accounts are accurate and presented in a clear way.
  • Support statistics producers across the department working on internal management information to apply best practice in their handling and dissemination.
