Summary


Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Junior Clinical Fellow in Urology initially until 6thAugust 2024.

This exciting post offers specialist training in diagnostic and core urological procedures and is well suited to trainees who have completed core surgical training wishing to increase their urology experience prior to Urology Speciality Training. Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and have membership of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent.

The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the unit’s clinical work including outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures, multi-disciplinary team meetings, day case and inpatient operating as well as emergency care and ward rounds. The clinical activities will be under the supervision of consultant urologists. Outpatient clinical activities will be on the Aintree site whereas inpatient and on call activities will be on the Royal site.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Urology middle grade on call rota which is based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. The rota is currently run at 1:12 which is split into weekdays daytime cover Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm, individual nights overnight cover Monday to Friday 5pm – 8am and weekend cover Saturday or Sunday 8am – 8am.



The appointee, together with his or her colleagues will have a commitment to the provision of urological services including general urology clinics, diagnostic clinics and ward cover. Other duties will include administration, attendance at MDT meetings and continuing medical education.

The post involves both the assessment and treatment of acute urological admissions. It is expected that the appointee will participate in a 1:12 middle grade on-call rota. This involves weekdays daytime cover Monday to Friday 8am–5pm, individual nights overnight cover Monday to Friday 5pm 8am and weekend cover Saturday or Sunday 8am 8am.

Audit/Clinical Governance

There are monthly audit meetings, including monthly audit of morbidity and mortality within the Directorate. The new Appointee will be expected to attend audit meetings and undertake an audit during tenure of the post.

Accountability

The appointed individual will be professionally and managerially accountable to the Aintree Urology Lead Consultant.



Teaching and Training

The successful candidate will have full mentoring during the tenure of this post. The Appointee will share the responsibility for carrying out undergraduate teaching of medical students will be attached to the Unit.

There are eight Specialist Registrars and a post CCT fellow who currently works in three firms. In addition there are three Clinical Fellows, a research fellow and SAS doctor, two CSTs and five FY1s.

The middle grade rota EWTD compliant and provides 24 hour cover.

• Provide appropriate training to medical students, Urology trainees and fellows
• Work with our partners in the community to foster greater understanding of urological conditions
• Work within the greater national and international urological community to improve the quality of life for urology patients

Our Consultant team has national and international profiles and contributes significantly to many major Urological meetings (BAUS, American Urology Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU).
