Summary

We are looking to recruit a Support Assistant in Decontamination and Cleaning to join our Integrated Community Equipment Service (ICES) on a temporary, part-time basis. This is a fixed-term post (until 04/05/2025) to cover another member of staff who will be on secondment.


You will be joining a vital service providing care and support to vulnerable members of the community. This service is operated on a collaborative joint basis with Hywel Dda University Health Board. It is important to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel coming into contact with any contaminated equipment and prevent cross-infection in-patients.


As our successful applicant you will assist in the provision of an effective, efficient equipment loan service to people with a disability of all ages. It is essential that the service equipment is cleaned appropriately and the daily cleaning of all areas to a high infection control standard is required. You will carry out the cleaning and decontamination of equipment which has been deployed in the community and undertake cleaning tasks, providing a high standard of service ensuring a safe and hygienic environment. You will provide a vital part of the supply chain process. Decontamination is the combination of processes used to make an item safe for handling by staff and for future use. The effective decontamination of reusable items is essential in reducing the risk of transmission of infectious agents and you will implement three levels of decontamination, cleaning, cleaning followed by disinfection, cleaning followed by sterilisation.

On a day-to-day basis you will:
- receive, clean and organise equipment from the Technicians/Delivery drivers
- assess, label and categorise items as they return to the warehouse, identifying any damaged or worn stock
- arranging services on equipment where appropriate
- keep accurate records of stock, reporting back to management and assisting with regular stock-checks
- assist in the provision of an effective, efficient equipment loan service to people with a disability of all ages
- support the delivery drivers by carrying out, or assisting with deliveries where service levels require

We are looking to recruit individuals who are motivated and enthusiastic about the nature of the work with a flexible attitude, with:
- relevant experience in cleaning and hygiene services
- relevant experience in a warehouse and/or delivery environment or equivalent setting
- excellent literacy and numeracy skills to understand written instructions, chemical labels, work schedules
- good knowledge of using IT basic applications and use of electronic devises
- demonstrate good awareness of Health & Safety, COSHH and Infection, and Prevention Controls
- team player with the ability to take directions from managers with a flexible approach to work, able to vary work schedule to meet the needs of the service

In addition to the above, we require individuals with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. A successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the desired standard within two years of appointment.
