Summary

The Post Holder for the Band 6 Macmillan Senior Therapeutic Radiographer role will be required to: Manage a workload of patients undergoing radiotherapy ensuring the safe and competent use of radiation and the highest standard of patient care, ensuring all efficiency targets are met. To ensure the RTSM is made aware of any patients who breach activity targets Provide advice regarding management of a range of complex radiotherapy related situations. Be competent in image verification to evaluate field placement and take any necessary action including re-planning if appropriate. Work closely with Band 7 treatment/planning staff, the medical physics team and the wider MDT to ensure that care, communication and service delivery are seamless. Develop, maintain and up-date written procedures for all areas of the area of work. Be responsible for ensuring all documented procedures pertaining to this work area are followed. Actively participate with the Band 7 team in the future development of their area of work, liaising with the wider Radiotherapy team as required. Complete departmental statistics for the area. In conjunction with the QA Radiographer, audit the practice of this work and make improvements as required discussing these with the departmental band 7 radiographers. Report incidents and faults to appropriate staff immediately. To ensure all machine faults are logged appropriately. Deputise for the Band 7 staff as required. Work in all areas of the department to maintain all round clinical knowledge and awareness. Liaise effectively with members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, and the wider Hospital Trust as required ensuring that specialist knowledge is integrated into all aspects of patients care and management. Supervise and instruct new junior staff, identify training needs of existing junior staff, discussing these with more senior radiographers when necessary. Be fully involved with the training and assessing of students from the partner higher education institution, liaising with the lecturer/practitioner. Report any patient complaints or non-compliance in accordance with departmental/ Trust policy. Take steps to keep abreast of any advances in Radiotherapy and to attend courses as required Deliver presentations as required on aspects of the daily work. Take an active role in own CPD. Carry out further duties as delegated by the Radiotherapy Services Manager or via the band 7 radiographers to ensure smooth running of the department. Work at both the main and satellite site as required.
