Summary


We are looking for applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapists who are committed to delivering patient-focused care and treatment to work in our inpatient Learning Disability service. The post-holder will work across our adult and young person's units as a valued member of the therapies team. They will be part of a team focused on improving out patients' quality of life and ultimately helping people return to the community.

We are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to enhance their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, leadership and confidence in working in this area.

We are therefore looking for applicants who either have experience working in inpatient settings with people with Learning Disability or have a good foundation of transferable skills and an interest to develop in this area.

We especially welcome applications from candidates with the valuable experience of the diverse social and cultural communities the Trust serves. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their career and flourish as a valued member of the Occupational Therapy staff group. We would welcome applications from OT's at Band 5 looking to develop to Band 6.

An exciting opportunity has arisen through the creation of a Band 5 – 6 Development Post in our vibrant and friendly inpatient Learning Disabilities unit. The successful applicant will be based at Kingswood Centre having the opportunity to work across both our adult and young person’s wards.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist who is considering developing into a senior OT role or also for a Band 6 OT who would like to gain experience in the only Learning Disability Inpatient unit in London - one of four in the UK!

The post holder will be a team-player working closely alongside other colleagues such as Nursing staff, Speech and Language therapy, Psychology, Art and Music Therapy, Positive Behavioural Support, Activity Co-ordinators and Sports technician to provide an effective occupational therapy service.

OTs will provide occupational focused assessments, have a knowledge of sensory modulation and provide individual and group work guided by the Model of Human Occupation. The Kingswood Centre has a fantastic purpose built therapy department which includes a large therapy room, gym, kitchen and gardens.

Occupational Therapy in the trust benefits from having a Professional Trust wide Head of OT and Borough Head OTs. This enables robust support, supervision, training and development opportunities. The profession has a new R&D strategy with close links to universities.

• To work as a qualified Occupational Therapist in inpatient learning disability wards
• OT practice guided and supported by senior staff within the clinical area.
• To be an autonomous practitioner assessing patients, defining needs in relation to Occupational Therapy and carrying out these interventions, and maintaining clinical records.
• To be responsible for own continuous professional development; build on previous experience enabling further development of clinical, administrative and leadership competencies.
• To supervise and support assistants and students.
• To be involved in service audit projects.
• To attend relevant departmental meetings and in-service training opportunities.
• To complete the Pan-London AHP Preceptorship Programme.
