Summary

This post is part of an exciting initiative to standardise training in breast disease management, via the Credential in Breast Disease Management (the Credential). The Credential was developed by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), the Association of Breast Clinicians (ABC), and the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) and is supported by NHS England. It provides high quality, structured training in breast radiology, breast cancer risk prediction and prevention, and outpatient management of breast surgical patients. On completion of the Credential, the post holder will support the delivery of symptomatic and screening breast services, family history breast clinics and breast clinical services. This post is funded jointly by NHSE, via the NBIA, and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will access high quality training allied to the current training in radiology but dedicated to breast imaging with additional training in clinical and family history assessment. There is a formal indicative 3-year training curriculum, closely based on the clinical radiology specialty training curriculum, which has been drafted in line with the GMCs standards for post-graduate training. The training will be supervised by a dedicated GMC registered educational supervisor, and clinical supervisors for each of the three main areas of training (surgery, radiology and family history). Annual reviews of progression, run by the RCR will be undertaken to assess progress and award the credential at the completion of the programme. During this 3-year WTE training programme the post holder will develop all the necessary knowledge and skills to provide clinical and imaging expertise in symptomatic and screening services and to lead family history breast clinics. This post is not designed for established breast clinicians or those wishing to pursue a surgical career. We have an excellent reputation for junior staff training. Within the Centre of Multi-Professional Educational & Training (COMET) is the Medical Education Department, the library including an IT suite, and the Training & Development Department. The main aim of the Medical Education Department is to promote postgraduate and continuing medical education and training for all doctors and dentists. The Hospital actively promotes career development and progression for all staff. The Hospital has excellent access to the surrounding areas with easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. The rural areas include many attractive villages and towns within easy reach of the Hospital including St Albans and Harpenden. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is also very good access to the Midlands and North by road using the M1 or A1, or by rail to one of the Lutons three stations. A direct link using the new Busway takes passengers from Luton Train station just 7 minutes to reach a stop that is within a short walking distance of the hospital. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes of the hospital. Applicants must be fully registered with the UK General Medical Council, and have a minimum of 12 years post graduate clinical experience with a minimum of 6 years in relevant specialty.
